The Kitty Sheet Edition #6

Dear fellow kitty lovers, the Rescue Community is struggling financially right now, as are many pet owners who cannot feed their four-legged family members! In some cases pet parents choose to feed their pets rather than themselves! The challenging economy is trickling down to adversely impact those who don’t have a voice! That’s why this special issue is hyper-focused on supporting nonprofits who rely on donations to rescue and save kitties in need. Donate during North Texas Giving Day happening TODAY! We profile some amazing rescues who need your help! Also, hunger is a huge issue across the nation for both families and their pets! PetSmart Charities’ second annual Pet Hunger Awareness Day on September 24th raises awareness of this issue and we’ll be sharing resources to help feed your pet both nationally and locally in the DFW-area.
As always, thank you for reading and sharing The Kitty Sheet!
-TKS

There are so many deserving nonprofits in the DFW-area we could never possibly name them all! Below we’re highlighted a mix of nonprofits that support rescue, adoption and the compassionate care of community cats, all things that align with The Kitty Sheet’s mission. Please consider a donation to one or all this North Texas Giving Day. No amount is too small because every dollar counts!

Watson and Daisy
One of the most steadfast cat advocates in North Texas is Maricats Rescue. The founder has dedicated her life to saving kitties from either a shelter or dire situation with goal of giving them the chance to live a full live of love and comfort. The kitties pictured above, Watson and Daisy, both need medical care they will receive this week thanks to Maricats! A foster-based rescue, the founder herself also gives a permanent sanctuary home to kitties with special needs or that are otherwise un-adoptable.

Rupurrt and Bitty Bitty
Let me introduce you to two of the newest special needs kitties and where the money will be spent. Meet Bitty Bitty - the tabby and white female. She is a Dwarf kitten with hearing problems and a cloudy eye. Usually with dwarfs, they have thyroid issues and she needs a thorough blood panel to determine the severity of her thyroid issues and then she will be placed on medication for the rest of her life. Hopefully the medications will help clear up her eye - but the hearing issues are permanent. She is currently 5 months old and weighs 3 pounds!
Meet Rupurrt. He has congenital hydrocephalus and an open fontanelle. He needs x-rays to see how severe the opening in his skull is. He may need meds to help his body absorb the fluid on his brain. He is also going to be prone to seizures and will more than likely need meds to control this. All of this can be determined with extensive blood work, which is NOT cheap. He is 4 months old.
Funds donated for NTX Giving Day are ear marked for their testing and life care.
Please consider donating to my rescue for North Texas Giving Day so we can continue to make a difference in these kitties lives.

Cupid’s Animal Haven in Weatherford, TX, offers a permanent home for sick, senior and feral cats with no where else to go. This includes kitties that are FIV+ and FeLV+. They provide their kitties with a high quality diet and have comfortable and safe indoor and outdoor areas for the cats. Fully volunteer run, donations all support the care of their cats.

Parker
This is Parker. She is Felv positive and has little, if any, eyesight!
When we heard about her we knew she had to be part of our haven!
She is the sweetest and spunkiest little girl and now she has two Felv positive buddies to keep her company!
Please help us to be able to continue to help kitties like Parker whose options are limited due to her Feline Leukemia diagnosis!
Please consider a donation to our non-profit for North Texas Giving Day, September 19th!

Cat Behavior Solutions is headed up by expert Certified Feline Training & Behavior Specialist Molly DeVoss. Her mission is to reduce rehoming through behavior education and training, reducing the number of cats coming into shelters. This saves lives! Molly also graciously allows us to share her amazing and super informative podcasts each week!
We teach cats' guardians how to modify unwanted behavior and to understand what's instinctive/unchangeable through behavior consultations and a weekly podcast called Cat Talk Radio. We offer counseling solutions, products, enrichment toys, services, etc., to improve communication between cats and their guardians. We share training plans that really work!

Hobie
One of the missions of The Kitty Sheet is support the compassionate care of community cats. The GPCC does this. It’s a fantastic nonprofit. Its Veterinary Support Program helps those with injured, ill, feral and stray cats or kittens, or those who cannot afford veterinary care, to access this care for their cats and other vulnerable animals. GPCC also provides 500 pounds of pet food to struggling colony caregivers each month. It also provides feral cat shelters to people requesting them in the DFW area.
This is Hobie, he had surgery yesterday (9/17) to stitch his neck wound. We’ve been working with our vet since July to help him heal.
North Texas Giving Day allows us to help cats like him. We are 10% toward our goal. Tomorrow (Sept. 19) is the last day to participate in NTX Giving Day. Consider giving today so you don’t miss out!

Cats in the Cliff’s is another nonprofit very active in helping community kitties whether they are homeless, feral, or strays. This nonprofit does this with its TNR initiatives, specialized colony care, and adoption services. It also helps sick or injured kitties get the help they desperately need.
My sweet Gordo, as most of you know, was found outside after having been hit by a car, with a severely broken jaw.
His emergency care was funded by generous and loving people in this amazing animal community - THANK YOU!
He is now living his best life with not a care in the world except how to keep his new brother Humphrey from eating all his food.
I originally was going to keep him because I felt like he was too shy to go to another home. I no longer feel that way because I have seen how quickly he opens up and would make the most wonderful family member. He is more like a dog than a cat and gets along perfectly with everyone!
Please continue to donate and share so that we can continue to help community and stray cats that might not otherwise make it.

Mid-Cities Community Cats is another wonderful all-volunteer group and every penny received goes directly to support its mission of improving life for community cats each and every day in the Hurst-Euless-Bedford, Texas area.
Please Be Part of the "Village" on North Texas Giving Day!
The saying goes that it "takes a village" to accomplish most important tasks. One such task is improving life for unowned, outdoor community cats, which happens to be Mid-Cities Community Cats core mission.
Please join our village and be part of the solution by supporting Mid-Cities Community Cats on North Texas Giving Day -- this Thursday, Sept. 19. NOW is the time to commit your partnership to this critical, lifesaving work. With your support, M-CCC will serve 800 - 1,000 community cats with trap-neuter-vaccinate-return and medical care in 2024...and do it all again in 2025.
Please give to help our important lifesaving mission between now and midnight Thursday, at: Support M-CCC, Inc. dba Mid-Cities Community Cats on North Texas Giving Day
Thank you!
And courtesy of Southwest Airlines, each $25 donated will provide one chance to win 2 roundtrip tickets from now to the end of the campaign

Buddies Place Cat Rescue is another amazing rescue that was founded in 2009. Its primary focus is its foster-based adoption program. It rescues cats and kittens who are surrendered, abandoned, or otherwise unwanted and provides them with veterinary care and safe housing until they find their forever homes. It also has a sanctuary for feral cats or those that are not adoptable.
Today is the biggest giving day of the year for us. Donations made today through midnight make life saving efforts possible. This year we have seen so many sad cases of abandonment like the 5 tiny bottle babies pictured below.
They were found in a taped up box with no air holes in a shopping cart on a very hot summer day. Fortunately they were found in time.
Please consider a donation today of any amount to help us rescue emergency kittens and provide medical care, spay/neuter, shots, testing, deworming, microchips, food and litter.

Since 2001, Kool Cats says it’s saved the lives of over 10,000 cats and kittens from area high kill animal shelters, often rescuing cats and kittens that other organizations do not rescue, including those with medical needs.
Please remember us on Thursday for North Texas Giving Day!! Kool Kats helps so many kitties from our local shelters and DFW streets. A lot will need expensive vet treatment for illness and injury. Please help with whatever you can.

Dallas Cat Lady has been helping cats since 2006. It helps homeless cats find loving homes and also take in cats from local shelters as well as from off the streets. It provides vet care, love and socialization in its all foster-based homes. DCL also avidly promotes TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) to help reduce the number of homeless cats through spaying and neutering.
I founded Dallas Cat Lady with a singular mission: to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. Driven by compassion and dedication, I've devoted my life to this purpose, alongside selfless volunteers who share my passion.
Together, we've built a renowned safe space for medically vulnerable kitties, providing love, care, and second chances. Our work is fueled by hearts, not paychecks.
Join us in shaping a brighter tomorrow for these innocent lives. Every donation, share, and voice raised strengthens our collective impact.
Thank you for your contributions this North Texas Giving Day. Now let’s break some goals and save some cats!

We can’t name them all, but here are some other North Texas Nonprofit Rescues to consider:

Each year thousands of U.S. families struggle to put food on the table and to feed their four-legged family members. In this current economic climate, the need is especially great. In addition to higher grocery food bills, pet food costs are going up, too. A recent Lending Tree 2024 Pet Debt Report found that 85% of pet owners say inflation is making ownership more expensive, with 41% struggling to afford costs. When asked what’s getting more expensive, 76% said pet food, 56% said vet services and 40% said necessary supplies.
That brings us to PetSmart Charities® second annual Pet Hunger Awareness Day on Tuesday, September 24th. Nearly 90 million U.S. households include pets and PetSmart Charities® estimates that 30 million pets live in homes with people coping with food insecurity. In partnership with Feeding America®, Pet Hunger Awareness Day is an effort to raise awareness about pet hunger in communities across the country and also provides access to free food in select cities.
On Tuesday, Sept. 24, there will be special distribution event where pet parents can pick up food for themselves, as well as their cat or dog family members at certain Feeding America partner food banks in Detroit, El Paso, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, New York City, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Tampa Bay.
Don’t live in one of those cities? Ask a local food banks if they currently offer pet food or plan to in the future.

PetSmart Charities: Meals on Wheels Loves Pets
We cannot forget about seniors who have pets and neither does PetSmart Charities! PetSmart Charities supports the Meals on Wheels Loves Pets program which helps seniors feed their pets. Together they’ve provided 13 million pet meals alongside food delivery for seniors. According to Meals on Wheels America, 1 in 5 seniors will forgo their own meals to fill their own pets’ bowls first. Volunteers from Meals on Wheels discovered the food trays they delivered for clients were often left on the floor as pet parents shared their meals with pets.
“Love for our pets isn’t measured by our bank account balances,” said Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities. “When times are tough, we want to ensure people have access to the resources they need to make sure their pets can stay in their homes doing what they do best – giving unconditional love and companionship. We’re grateful for our partnerships with Feeding America and Meals on Wheels America and encourage all social services agencies to consider adding services for pets, too.”
“Older adults enjoy so many benefits from caring for their pets,” said Ellie Hollander, President and CEO of Meals on Wheels America. “The comfort and companionship they offer boosts wellness, staves off feelings of isolation and helps older adults remain active. Our partnership with PetSmart Charities has helped more seniors stay in their homes together with their pets – happier and healthier.”
Want to help? Alphia, the company that manufactures pet food donated by PetSmart Charities to Feeding America food bank partners, is matching donations made to PetSmart Charities on PetSmartCharities.org up to $40,000 through September 30.
PetSmart Charities’ says that to date, more than 350 million pet meals have been delivered through its partnerships with Feeding America, Meals on Wheels America, and others.
